Welcome!

Thank you for your interest in biodiesel in Tacoma, and for coming to visit our web site.

Biodiesel is an alternative to petroleum diesel made from vegetable oil that can be used in any diesel engine. Now this clean, renewable, domestically-produced fuel is available right here in Tacoma, and you can be a part of it!

The Tacoma Biodiesel Cooperative is a grassroots group of Tacoma-area citizens who have chosen to support this alternative fuel through advocacy and use in our personal vehicles.

Why should you use biodiesel? Here are a few reasons!

Biodiesel is environmentally friendly
Biodiesel reduces all emissions except NOx vs. regular diesel, doesn't contribute to the Greenhouse Effect and global warming (carbon reduced into the atmosphere is negated by the photosynthesis of the oil plants), and is fully biodegradable.
Biodiesel promotoes economic growth and national security
Because biodiesel can be produced domestically, it keeps money in our economy since it can be produced here, supports agriculture, provides production jobs for Americans, and reduces dependence on foreign oil.
Biodiesel is good for your engine
Biodiesel is better for your engine than conventional petroleum diesel because it contains no sulphur, has superior lubrication, and helps to keep the engine clean.

Does Tacoma Biodiesel make or sell biodiesel?

At the time of our inception in 2003, there were no retail locations for biodiesel in the Tacoma area. We solved this problem by "group buying" fuel and dispensing from a pump located off the alley of one of our members.

Since May 2005, biodiesel (B99) has been available at APP in Fife (at the corner of Highway 99 and Port of Tacoma Road). At that time our bulk purchasing of fuel was put on an indefinite hiatus.

At this time, we are still determining our future direction, and whether that will include the future bulk purchase of fuel, or even possibly making our own biodiesel. We would love for anyone interested to get involved and help us make these and other decisions.
